We are a non-political group formed initially to co-ordinate a response to yet another overhead line being installed by the ESB across the rural countryside. However, our investigations have established that there are serious underlying issues, which, not only could affect us in the West, but have National implications. These do not appear to have been considered.

We believe it is right, as a matter of courtesy, to bring these to the attention of our Minister(s) as there is a real possibility of these becoming part of a national debate. We understand that more up to date research indicates a more damaging scenario.

It is to be expected that many people the length ofthe Country will have read the articles in yhe Economist' dated 5/8/00 entitled "The Electric Revelotution" and are asking why we, as a forward thinking country, are persisting with 1970's answers to new problems in the area of Energy and Power, when we should be looking at 21st century solutions.

We would welcome the opportunity to discuss the issues with you or your colleagues as we strongly believe that they have serious repercussions for the State.
