ESB And The Environment

'Care of the environment is a core value of ESB'

ESB inaugurated a Community Environment Award Scheme this year (2000). The awards ceremony was held in the Burlington Hotel on 25th September attended by Mr Ken O'Hara, ESB Chief Executive. An ESB spokesperson said:-

'For an energy company like ESB, environmental issues have always been a priority. A key aspect for ESB is to develop awareness of the environment in the broader community and move towards sustainable development. This involves encouraging individuals to make choices and to take action that reflects the need to pass on an intact environment to future generations.'

There seems to be a conflicting message. Does one part of ESB not know what the other part is doing to the environment?

'Well I don't think that anyone can call them (pylons) beautiful but we, or anybody else around the world haven't found a better way of dealing with bulk transport of major quantities of energy around the country'.
